UNDERBITE!
10 months MCB splint.
Is it possible to have change only with other treatments and without surgery?
Why were there changes?
The upper and lower jaws are part of the skull. The upper jaw is most often misaligned with the movement of the sphenoid bone. If the movement of the sphenoid bone does not rotate backward but moves forward after treatment, the upper jaw can also move forward in adults.
Then why did the lower jaw move backward?
Most people probably know that the length of the lower jaw can be changed by shortening it using surgery. These changes are related to the rotational movement of the temporal bone.
In the photo on the left, the lower jaw protrudes forward due to the anterior rotation of the temporal bone. The anterior rotation of the temporal bone is caused by the forward movement of the occipital bone. However, the reason for the change as shown in the photo on the right is that the position of the lower jaw has changed to the rear without changing the length because the temporal bone is being rotated backward.
These are natural changes that occur when you move the skull with normal movements while treating a cranial deformity. It is the mcb splint that makes this possible.
